News 2023

Successful inaugural lecture

"Caught in the NET - White blood cells at the interface between inflammation and thrombosis" was the title of the inaugural lecture by our ACS Fellow Dr. Moritz Leppkes. He vividly explained the similarities between neutrophil granulocytes and Spiderman in the fight against disruptive intruders, and how exploding cola bottles come into play. But joking aside - the research performance shown was outstanding and nothing should stand in the way of the PD now! (13.12.2023)

"Born To Be Wild" - Lecture by Prof. S. Rosshart

In our ‘Hot Topics in Immunomedicine’ seminar series, Prof. S. Rosshart (Head of the new Department of Microbiomics at Erlangen University Hospital) gave an exciting lecture on his ‘wildling’ mouse model and showed how laboratory mice with the microbiome of wild mice are better suited for many experimental questions than pathogen-free laboratory animals. The interest of the audience on site and connected via hybrid from Regensburg and Frankfurt was enormous, as evidenced by the numerous questions at the end! Many thanks, Prof. Rosshart, for the very successful lecture! (Dec 11 2023)

ACSP Kick-off Meeting at the BMBF in Berlin

On 29 November, we met with the project sponsor and the ACS, spokespersons and coordinators of the other BMBF-funded ACS programmes at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in Berlin to kick off the joint exchange platform. Exciting presentations and lively discussions took place at the large round table and in smaller groups. What does the training of clinician scientists abroad look like? What challenges do the ACS face at their respective locations? How could university medicine look like in the future? This will also be up to our ACS…

At the interface between medicine and physics

The name of our programme, ‘Interfaces in Immunomedicine’, already indicates that the interfaces between immunomedicine and other fields of research are of particular importance. We are therefore looking forward to this event with Prof. Thomas Brabletz (Chair of Experimental Medicine I), organised by the Max Planck Institute for Physics and Medicine.

Our first internal retreat in Herzogenaurach

On 24 October, we met at HerzogsPark in Herzogenaurach for our first internal retreat. The ACS fellows presented their projects and the current status of their research to each other for the first time. This led to many exciting discussions, for which we will need to allow more time next time! Many thanks to all those involved, especially guest speakers Prof. Armin Nagel (Professor of Metabolic and Functional MR Imaging), Prof. Andreas Ramming (Senior Physician, Internal Medicine 3) and Susanne Geu (Digital Science Communication)!  Flyer

The Long Night of Science on 21 October – our ACS are taking part!

Two of our ACS members will be informing interested members of the public about their work and the latest therapeutic findings at the Long Night of Science 2023:

Dr Fabian Müller will be giving visitors to the Translational Research Centre a tour of the laboratories and answering questions about basic haematological research.

Dr Martin Regensburger will give a lecture entitled ‘Current therapeutic studies in Parkinson's disease’ (11 p.m., small lecture hall, ground floor).
